Shipco Transport has been recognized by Transportation Review Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top 10 Air Freight Transportation Services Companies - 2023 ,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry. This profile has been developed by the Transportation Review research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Kim Ekstroem, COO of Global Airfreight.
Kim Ekstroem, COO of Global AirfreightAs a leading, global, neutral, non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC), Shipco Transport is ideally positioned to deliver a comprehensive suite of premier logistics services, helping forwarders cover all their transportation needs. Founded in 1988 as a subsidiary of Denmark-based Scan- Group, their core services include air freight, less-than-container load (LCL), and full-container load (FCL) ocean freight. The organization serves as a global transportation solutions provider, complementing their service excellence, which spans 30 countries across five continents.
Through their Airfreight division, Shipco delivers proficient air cargo services that cater to the freight forwarding industry in the U.S.A. and abroad. As a neutral wholesaler and consolidator, Shipco works exclusively with freight forwarders. They offer hundreds of scheduled consolidations and direct services to remote airports globally from various gateways. With their 38 strategically located offices combined with their partnership in AirCargoGroup (ACG), a global network of neutral airfreight wholesalers, Shipco provides a full range of origin and destination points with competitive pricing based on allocated or block-space agreements (BSAs).
“We provide small and mid-sized air forwarders access to buying power and infrastructure, enabling them to compete globally,” says Kim Ekstroem, COO of global airfreight at Shipco Transport.
Their end-to-end consolidation services save clients from the hassle of dealing with multiple airlines and trucking vendors. The services include collecting shipments, door delivery, and turning over documents to their agents. Shipco’s truck brokerage expertise allows them to offer these services across North America. They use only the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved truckers, run their own TSA screening facilities and warehouses, and employ a two-level hazardous goods check system, ensuring compliance at every turn. This unwavering focus on efficiency and customer-centricity makes Shipco a reliable partner for forwarders, positioning them among the largest two percent measured in buying power.
Shipco’s LCL services stand a notch above the competition, covering over 2,600+ direct weekly services backed by a team of in-house consolidation experts and cutting-edge digital solutions. They are a founding member of the Worldwide Alliance (WWA), an association of leading neutral NVOCCs, further strengthening their global ocean freight capabilities. But what sets Shipco apart is their ability to combine ocean and air freight solutions.
We provide small and mid-sized air forwarders access to buying power and infrastructure, enabling them to compete globally
With a seamlessly integrated hybrid ocean and air transport model, Shipco’s services span three primary routes. One service delivers a sea-air solution, transporting freight via ocean to Dubai and then flying to airports all over Europe, Africa, and America within 24 hours. The cargo reaches its final destination a day later. The sea-air solution is also used to efficiently move cargo from Asia to South and Central America via Los Angeles and Miami, while their air-sea solution connects the U.S. to Hong Kong via air and uses LCL ocean freight to reach the Australian ports.
Shipco’s services are best complemented by their intuitive platform, Air2Z, which gives clients access to a comprehensive online rating, booking, and tracking system. It allows for checking the rates from any door in the lower 49 states to any destination worldwide on more than 60 airlines for shipments up to 500 kgs. This includes airfreight, pick-up, screening, and transfer charges, allowing clients to have a quote for door-to-destination airport in seconds.
For heavier or bigger shipments, requests are automatically transferred to Shipco’s air consolidation experts, who manage the requests and identify spot rates, alternative routes, and possibilities for consolidations. Air2Z offers clients access to documentation, cargo images, and tracking while allowing forwarders to fill out the AWB, which is handy with L/Cs.
The combination of Shipco’s Air2Z and the team of experts brings the best of all scenarios, benefitting clients in handling the shipments. The ability to save costs and facilitate quick transportation by consolidating multiple shippers or freights enables Shipco to stand out as the preferred freight service provider.
