Iteris, Inc. has been recognized by Transportation Review Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top Intelligent Traffic Detection Solutions 2026,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “Top Traffic Management and Control Services,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the Transportation Review research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Marco Tripi, CEO.
Effective traffic management involves a thorough understanding of the dynamics of today’s traffic situation. It is not limited to the identification of vehicles. Transport authorities are required to have knowledge of speed, movement, pedestrians, cyclists and dynamic changes in the traffic scene. Iteris, Inc.provides that in-depth layer through video, radar, AI, connectivity and analytics.
Rather than relying on a single sensor, the platform incorporates an array of technologies that work together to give transportation professionals a clearer picture of their roads and intersections.
The Architecture of Detection
At the intersection level, Iteris looks at traffic through a practical lens. The company’s Vantage portfolio gives agencies different ways to detect and interpret roadway activity based on the size, layout and needs of each location. For stop-bar and advance-zone detection, its Vantage Next provides advanced video detection by combining video and radar. Vantage Radius, in addition, uses 4D high-definition radar with an integrated camera for detection verification. Vantage Apex extends the portfolio by combining 1080p video, 4D radar, sensor fusion and AI in one comprehensive platform.
Observing an intersection through multiple layers of security matters because each of them has different requirements. A standard signalized crossing has different needs from a large interchange or an intersection with heavy pedestrian and bicycle movement. Considering that, Vantage Next Max doubles the number of sensors supported by its central control unit from four to eight. Doing so gives agencies more coverage for larger intersections and more complex layouts.
Backing Vantage Next Max is the VantageNode camera system. Launched in 2026, the quad-camera detection solution is designed to help agencies modernize small and infrastructure-constrained intersections with less installation complexity. It utilizes AI to monitor up to four lanes of traffic from a single mount point to address every issue at intersections. These solutions together allow agencies to have improved visibility, reduced fieldwork and expanded reliable detection across more of their network.
Iteris takes detection to the next stage by turning it into usable traffic data. VantageLive!, a web-based data service, automatically collects and analyzes vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian activity. Utilizing its cloud-based infrastructure connected to Iteris detection sensors, traffic engineers and planning teams can access historical information, generate reports and support planning and operational decisions without relying on manual data collection procedures.
Intelligence across the Network
Detection and data collection are only part of what Iteris provides. It leverages the data to improve the wider transportation system. The company’s ClearMobility does that to continuously monitor, visualize and optimize mobility infrastructure. It brings together cloud computing, AI, advanced sensors, advisory services and managed services. The goal is to help agencies monitor, visualize, and optimize mobility infrastructure over time.
The dynamic ecosystem unifies already existing software and sensors into a common cloud, integrated to extract value from traffic data. Integration and interoperability become key because transportation networks, public or private, often operate equipment from different generations and multiple vendors.
Keeping that in mind, Iteris also commits itself to comprehensive product support post-installation. VantageCare, its cloud-enabled managed service for the Vantage portfolio, provides different levels of support, including maintenance and performance-focused services. VantageLink extends that support. It gives agencies remote connectivity to traffic cabinets, allowing them to monitor, manage and maintain equipment without replacing entire systems. Adding to the layer is Vantage CV, which links detection with connected-vehicle communications and safety applications. Information gathered at intersections can support alerts involving pedestrians in crosswalks and potential red-light violations.
VantagePriority, a scalable, cloud-based system, provides a flexible, GPS-based method for transit signal priority and emergency vehicle preemption. Using existing hardware and APIs, it allows for priority and preemption across multiple intersections, including emergency vehicle preemption (EVP), transit signal priority (TSP), and snowplow priority.
To further enhance its integrated approach towards traffic data solutions, Iteris recently acquired ThruGreen technology. The acquisition strengthened the company’s ability to connect legacy and modern traffic cabinets through cloud-based monitoring and vehicle-to-everything applications. VantageLink brought that capability into a product built around remote access and real-time cabinet visibility. Agencies dealing with long infrastructure cycles can benefit from this flexibility by adding intelligence without having to retire functioning equipment.
Making Every Signal More Informed
Deployments show how Iteris’ approach translates into day-to-day transportation operations. In Bentonville, Arkansas, the Iteris detection technology was upgraded across existing intersections. The project added high-resolution video, multimodal detection and data capabilities. Vantage Next and Vantage Vector supported lane-by-lane detection, bicycle and pedestrian detection, dilemma-zone coverage and performance measurement. VantageLive! added cloud-based analytics for ongoing data collection.
In Concord, California, Iteris was awarded a USD 2 million contract for a smart mobility, safety and sustainability initiative. Vantage Vector was selected to support the region’s goal of improving safety and mobility for all road users, while increasing sustainability across key signalized intersections. Its video and radar capabilities could distinguish between vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians, enabling the city to adjust traffic signal timing to accommodate slower-moving road users and minimize congestion and delays.
Across these projects, Iteris has been driven by a consistent underlying mission. It is to create value through detection that agencies can use to improve signal operations, understand movement and make better infrastructure decisions.
For Iteris, the opportunity is to make intelligent traffic detection practical across the real transportation landscape. Its combination of video, radar, AI, cloud architecture, connectivity and operational support goes beyond traffic detection. Together, they become a functional capability within the mobility infrastructure that allows agencies to understand the operations of their networks and areas where improvement is needed. Iteris, Inc.’s approach to practical implementation, fueled by product developments and deployments across various transportation environments, has become the basis for naming the company the Top Intelligent Traffic Detection Solutions 2026.
